NEST - NEtworking of Sparrow conservation Teams initiated by ARPF is a community based program launched on 20th March 2014. It is an initiative to bring back the lost Sparrows through community outreach and conservation techniques.

About Sparrows :
Sparrow are the native birds to many countries over the world.
These little, gregarious birds love to live close to human habitation making nests in our homes and feeding on left over food,grains and pests/insects that are harmful for our plants.
Unfortunately we do not find sparrows these days and modern human lifestyle is to a great extent responsible for their declining numbers.
Our homes no longer provide them a scope /facility to make nests. Our native trees, shrubs and bushes are fast disappearing leaving them no scope to make nests, lay eggs and bring up their young ones.
Sparrows and other birds are our friendly neighbours.They are essential indicators of good and bad about our environment.
All elements of Nature's Creation are useful to in some way or the other.
Let us all come together and protect our bird population from extinction.
We can do this by:
Creating Nesting Facilities like-
Conventional Ventilators in our housing designs.
Nesting facilities which can be made from waste wood, shoe boxes, discarded bottles, PVC pipes,coconut shells, mud/earthen pots etc.
Providing fresh water feeders.
Feeding grains like broken rice, raala,bajra etc, bread crumbs, bhaakri, roti,and other left over food.
Promoting plantation of native trees, shrubs and bushes.
Preventing the use of chemical pesticides.
Adapting eco-friendly life styles.
